Open Science - Otevřená Věda 2026 Internship
On January 9, 2026, Elen Flanderková, a second-year student at secondary school Gymnázium Omská in Prague, began her year-long scientific internship within the Otevřená Věda (Open Science) 2026 program. Under the supervision of Petr Vítek at the Department of Nanocatalysis at the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry (Czech Academy of Sciences), Elen will focus her research on atomically precise subnanometer clusters.
The topic of the internship is “Subnanometer clusters as high performance catalysts”. Her work involves testing these clusters utilizing techniques such as mass spectrometry. She will work with potential catalysts for industry-relevant chemical reactions, contributing to state-of-the-art research in material science. Subnanometer clusters represent the frontier of catalysis, offering the potential to drastically reduce the amount of precious metals needed for industrial chemical production.
