ERA Chair at J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry CAS - The institutional approach towards ERA

"ERA Chairs projects aim to attract and maintain high quality human resources under the direction of an outstanding researcher while at the same time implementing structural changes necessary to achieve excellence on a sustainable basis."

J. Heyrovský Chair project makes part of concerted actions of management of the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry to induce structural changes, which will help develop Institute´s most promising potential in long-term perspective, and turn into recognized, widely known research body. It is envisaged that this project will result in meeting the following main objectives:

  • Increase of scientific excellence

  • Support of structural changes within the Institute

  • Enhancement of international visibility and attractiveness

  • Improvement of human resources and capacities

  • Maintenance of sustainability of introduced changes.

"ERA Chairs stand for bringing excellence to institutions."

Full involvement of ERA Chair holder, steady support from the management of the J. Heyrovský Institute of Physical Chemistry, and personal participation of its members in the project activities are the best prerequisites for the project success. The five-year duration of the projects focuses on reaching specific objectives, defined as follows:

  • Excellent research team

  • Excellent internal cooperation

  • Excellent scientific results.

By addressing the main and specific objectives, the J. Heyrovský Chair project will result in unprecedented interdisciplinary depth of knowledge, will change the institutional culture by strengthening the spirit of collaboration, and will create supportive measures inducing changes in the administrative setting.

Monitoring and advisory role at the project implementation provides Project Advisory Board (PAB), consisting of internationally recognized researches with scientific and managerial expertise. Members of PAB come from six different research organizations, from five European countries:
